As we all know, the World Series of Poker had to move online this summer since holding the event live at the Rio is impossible due to the pandemic. In response, the World Series of Poker Online is being held at WSOP.com and GGPoker, with 31 bracelets up for grabs to players physically located inside Nevada and New Jersey for the former and 54 bracelets that can be won by “rest of world” players on the latter.
One bracelet event is being held each day of July on WSOP.com and plenty of known names have struck gold with big wins. One such name was Pat Lyons, who followed up on his 2016 World Poker Tour: Legends of Poker win, by outplaying a field of 917 to land his first gold bracelet in a $777 no-limit Texas Hold ‘Em event to win $173,551.

That said, watching a World Poker Tour or World Series of Poker event unfold is extremely exciting, as those who followed Pat Lyons win his first ever gold bracelet in the 2020 World Series of Poker Online tournament series on WSOP.com will attest. Lyons now has tournament results of more than $ 1.5 million and has won two “majors.”
Lyons has also had plenty of other poker success over his career, having scored a WSOP Circuit ring in 2018 at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles. His results date back to 2004, with his biggest ever win being for $615,346 at the aforementioned 2016 WPT Legends of Poker Main Event.

With 917 unique players and 465 re-entries, the event featured a total prize pool of $967,400. Over 200 players cashed, including a number of notable names including: six-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu, as well as plenty of other highhly accomplished pros like Freddy Deeb, Daniel Zack, Ryan, Leng, Roland Israelishvili, Upeshka De Silva, Ryan Laplante, and Chris Moorman.
Laplante, in particular, has been on a tear this summer with over a dozen cashes, and a streak of almost 10 consecutive cashes, as of this article’s publication.
Players who made the final table alongside Lyons included Daniel Alfa, Julian Parmann, Scott Hempel, Vincent Pontrello, Jim Collopy, Jonathan Dokler, Barry Wenger, and Chris Ginley.
Wegner held the chip lead heading into the final table and eliminated multiple players during final table play, but ultimately finished in third place. Dokler had won a bracelet earlier this summer, so he continued his strong performance in the online poker tournament series with another great showing. By the time heads-up place was reached, Lyons had a 9:1 chip advantage over eventual runner-up, Ginley, who nonetheless recorded a great payday of $107,478.
Twitter went wild after Lyons’ win, as he’s got tons of fans among members of the poker community. Lyons’ exuberance was clear, as while the payday might not have been his highest, the prestige of winning a bracelet can’t be matched as far as a poker accomplishment.
