Whilst many states jumped on board the sports betting legalization change when it came to pass in the USA in 2018, New Jersey was one of the first in line to embrace the seismic shift.

With a rich history of gambling stemming from Atlantic City, New Jersey has always been fully on board with gaming and gambling trends as the barriers were opened by the change in ruling across America.

New Jersey

Poker is one of the most intrinsically linked sports to Atlantic City, with plenty of the biggest events in the world of poker taking place in the state lines of New Jersey and it remains as popular as ever.

Beyond that, New Jersey is now getting on board with sports gambling and whilst overtaking the poker playing fraternity of the state could be a long way off, the virtues of sports betting are beginning to bear fruit.

Unpredictability is at the heart of the appeal in both poker betting and sports betting and it is the transferrable elements of both that see the two entwined.

However, where the two industries differed previously is the instantaneous nature of the winnings within poker and sports betting.

Poker burst onto the scene as an opportunity for punters to win instant money, pitting players against each other, with wins and losses yielding returns on the spot.

This trend then moved into the roulette, bingo and slots markets too, with players able to get a quick hit on any given betting market.

Sports betting was late to the party in this regard, with players having to wait for an event to finish to see any sort of return on the money they originally invested.

One of the most seismic shifts in the world of sports betting has been the development in live betting and in-play opportunities that have been fully embraced by the New Jersey betting fraternity.

Players are now able to place a bet on a sporting outcome, watch it unfold and if it comes in, see an instant return – something that simply wasn’t available to them previously.

Poker and other traditional casino games at online casinos in NJ such as MGM or DraftKings will always have a place in the industry in states such as New Jersey, simply due to the rich heritage that stems through generations.

Atlantic City remains a hub for gamblers the world over and it is synonymous with Las Vegas amongst many gamblers, especially East Coast residents.

Adding the sports betting string to the gambling bow in New Jersey has only heightened the intrigue around the industry and it is showing no sign of slowing.

New Jersey has always been synonymous with the gambling industry and with more and more options available to Jersey residents than ever before, it is continuing to trend upwards.
