Here at Cardplayer Lifestyle, we’re always happy when poker gets positive mainstream media coverage, and that’s why we’re so happy to celebrate the announcement that Bernard Lee has just gotten a gig as the poker columnist for Metrowest Daily News.
A successful poker professional with about $2.5 million in career winnings, Lee has been a longtime stalwart member of the poker media corps, having written for publications like ESPN, PokerNews, and of course right here on this poker media website. Having previously been deemed “The Voice of New England Poker” by Card Player magazine, Bernard has been hosting his popular Bernard Lee Poker Show for over 13 years, now part of the Cardplayer Lifestyle family of podcasts.
Lee’s column, entitled House Rules, will appear in both the print and online versions of the Metrowest Daily News bi-monthly on Fridays, and will discuss a variety of interesting poker strategy topics. His first column debuted this past Friday and can be seen here.
In addition to hand breakdowns and other poker strategy talk, Bernard will also detail news from his poker travels and tournament series play, as well as share the major goings on around the poker world.
“I’m excited to bring the world of poker to the newspaper based in my hometown area,” Lee exclaimed. “My poker column will utilize a unique online hand replay technology (from ShareMyPair.com) so readers can readily follow the action. Fortunately, due to the nature of being online, people from all around the world can enjoy the column. I’m excited to join the Metrowest Daily News Sports team and share my passion for poker.”
“Bernard brings over a decade of poker playing and writing experience to The Metrowest Daily News. We are thrilled to have his expertise in one of the world’s most popular games – poker,” stated Tommy Cassell, Metrowest Daily News Senior Multimedia Journalist and Sports Team Leader.
The Milford and MetroWest Daily News is an American daily newspaper based out of Milford and Framingham, Massachusetts, serving the MetroWest region of suburban Boston. While a local publication, the paper’s online presence gives Lee’s column a chance to reach that many more people region-, country-, and world-wide.
As Cardplayer Lifestyle is a poker media site, all of our visitors are familiar with the poker world and the types of topics we cover. Surely you also visit other poker media sites, too. During poker’s boom years, our game regularly received mainstream news coverage. In today’s environment with so much media out there competing for attention, it’s that much more difficult for poker to find a voice outside of our industry proper. As such, we commend Bernard Lee’s achievement and also wish to thank the staff of the Metrowest Daily News for giving one of our game’s great voices the space to share top-quality content with its audience.
As Lee is also a top poker philanthropist whose generosity we’ve chronicled here numerous times, it’s heartwarming to see one of poker’s good guys continuing to have success and still actively be working to promote our game after so many years.
