Moving into Poker Podcasts: I’m Joining Top Pair as Co-Host

In my previous post, I wrote about what it was like to meet Matt Glantz and noted that it was the first time in my life I’d met a professional poker player in person. Indeed, for all that I’ve done in the poker world, there’s certainly plenty that I haven’t yet done. While I’ve been interviewed many times in the past on a number of poker podcasts, I’ve never taken a turn on the other side of the mike… until now. I’m proud to announce that I’ll be joining Bruce Briggs as the new co-host of the Top Pair Home Game Poker Podcast.Top Pair poker podcast

About the Top Pair Poker Podcast

For those of you unfamiliar, the Top Pair Home Game Pokercast is unique among other poker podcasts in that it focuses on everything and anything that goes on in home games. Bruce and former co-host Eric Nelson have recorded over 200 episodes since late-2009, which is incidentally just a month before I founded the Cardplayer Lifestyle poker blog.

Aside from discussing every home game poker topic under the sun, Top Pair often features famous guests from the poker world. Poker Hall of Famers Mike Sexton and Linda Johnson, as well as WSOP Media Director Nolan Dalla and the “Mad Genius of Poker” Mike Caro are among the many well-known names in poker who’ve been on the show. True to the show’s theme, these famous guests often open up about their experiences in home games, which makes for some pretty refreshing and innovative poker content you simply can’t find anywhere else.

Why am I Joining the Top Pair Poker Podcast?

Well, first and foremost, Bruce approached me with the opportunity – so here’s a public thank-you Bruce! I’d never really thought of being a poker podcast host before, but it certainly makes sense to give this one a try; it’s quite literally a perfect fit for me.

Hopefully, I’ll be the co-host for much longer than just one day…

Living in Israel, where we don’t have any live poker rooms yet, my main poker play is in home games. I’ve been playing poker with my buddies in various different groups ever since I saw Chris Moneymaker on TV for the first time. Those games are pretty much straight up Texas Hold’em, with the occasional Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo thrown in to spice things up a little once in a while. I also play in my Dad’s home game, which is “wild games, anything goes” – enjoying follow the queen, deuces wild, baseball, low spade in the hole, etc. – you name it. Beyond that, I’ve also organized a number of pretty decent-sized grassroots charity poker tournaments, so I certainly have the requisite experience to co-host a show focusing specifically on all types of home game poker.

Aside from all that, it just seems like a pretty cool new thing to get involved in and a chance to expand my horizons ever further in the poker world.

Oh, the Show Could Use Some Great Sponsors, Too…

There’s a famous Jewish saying that “if there’s no flour (sustenance), there’s no Torah”. The same holds true for any enterprise: there’s got to be funds greasing the wheels so that the machine can continue to function. So if you’ve got a poker product, poker website, or perhaps an online poker room – for example, I’m looking at you Caesars online gambling – that you’d like to promote, you’re certainly invited to get in touch and become a sponsor of the show.become a sponsor

The Top Pair Poker Podcast has an incredibly loyal audience of followers and I’m positive that it’s only going to grow as we move forward. This would be your chance to “get in on the ground floor” and reach some hard core poker fans.

Be Sure to Tune In!

Bruce and I are scheduled to record our first Top Pair Poker Podcast episode together – episode #212 overall – tonight and we should have it available for download and online streaming within a few days. The show currently airs every couple of weeks, but perhaps that’ll increase that in the future if all goes well and our fans want to hear more from us.

I’m looking forward to this new challenge and I hope you guys will join me in the fun!
