2011 Partouche Poker Tour Main Event Champion: Sam Trickett

One of the most important poker tournaments in Europe came to a conclusion today, as Sam Trickett walked away the champion, along with a check worth €1,000,000 at the Partouche Poker Tour (PPT). The PPT’s €8,500 buy-in Main Event began back in September, when 579 players entered for their shot at glory. Taking a page from the WSOP playbook, play was suspended after 5 days, when the final table was reached, so TV broadcasts over the last couple months could help build suspense for the conclusion of “the other November Nine”.

Sam Trickett, unquestionably the headliner at the final table, started out with the chip lead. Buoyed by an incredible 2011 in which he has amassed over $3 million in winnings from successes at the Aussie Millions, EPT London, and WSOPE events, Trickett was primed for another 7-figure score, which would vault him into “white hot untouchable” status for 2011, thus far only achieved by Erik Seidel. Though he faced stiff competition, and by no means was the contest a steamroll of any sort, Trickett was able to pull out the victory when all was said and done.

The prestigious poker series’ Main Event, run by the highly acclaimed tournament director Matt Savage, has had its fair share of notable winners in the past, including last year’s champion Vanessa Selbst. Indeed, Cannes, France is truly building a reputation as a poker hotspot these days, with the PPT final table taking place at the beautiful Palm Beach Casino, just a month or so after the city finished hosting the World Series of Poker Europe.
