Subject Poker Decides to Fold ‘Em

Subject Poker is a website that debuted in May of last year with the goal of acting as an investigative reporting poker site; something the website’s creators believed to be severely lacking at the time. Founded by a group of respected, well-known poker players, the site quickly garnered tremendous respect in the poker community for indeed providing a unique, impartial perspective on happenings in the poker industry.

Subject Poker

Emerging in the immediate aftermath of Black Friday, Subject Poker quickly became a go-to source for information on the Full Tilt Poker scandal. Countless Full Tilt-related stories were broken by the site’s investigative reporters, and a host of leading poker news websites, including Cardplayer Lifestyle, began relying on Subject Poker as their source for breaking news to in turn relay to their readers. In addition to revealing accounts of the developments at the U.S. Department of Justice, the Bernard Tapie Group, and the former Board of Directors at Full Tilt Poker, Subject Poker also brought to light news about online gaming payment processors and other online poker operators, such as UB/Absolute.

Among the many reasons we at Cardplayer Lifestyle came to respect Subject Poker as an authority in the field was their commitment to exclusively rely on donations to assist in their operations, rather than accept advertising money. As anyone who runs a website knows, providing a quality product that draws readers and visitors in takes a lot of time and effort. Advertising money is the grease that helps keep those wheels spinning. For a website to continually produce the type of top-notch articles and news that Subject Poker did without compromising its principles (i.e., not accepting ad money so as to remain 100% impartial) is not only commendable but downright inspirational.

Farewell and Thanks for Everything

Subject Poker just published its final article, announcing that they’re closing up shop. It’s not that they’ve given up or run out of funding, but rather that business opportunities arose for some of the website’s creators that they couldn’t pass up. This carried the (unfortunate for the rest of us) result that continuing to run the site would present a conflict of interests for its founders.

As a fellow member of the poker media community, Cardplayer Lifestyle would like to thank and congratulate the Subject Poker team for all the good they’ve done for poker players over the last 8.5 months. Your contributions, efforts, and genuine desire to keep poker operators and service providers 100% honest were done with the best interests of the game of poker and its players in mind, and will be sorely missed.
