No, that title is no misprint by any means. This poker blog post has absolutely nothing to do with underage gambling either. Rather, I happened upon a really great inspirational video on Youtube a short while back. It’s got close to 600,000 views as of this writing and it’s been online since the end of 2009, but it’s new to me. The speaker in the video uses poker chips as a fascinating metaphor for ways to build up confidence in one’s children. Generally speaking, he says that the more poker chips you give your children, the better off they’ll be. He also talks about the perils of unintentionally taking away those very poker chips you give them.
I’ve got 3 beautiful, wonderful kids of my own and, along with my wife, they’re the most precious things to me in my life. Like any father, I want what’s best for them and of course I want each of them to grow up full of confidence in themselves and their abilities. Poker is obviously a huge passion of mine, so listening to this speech, in which the symbolism of poker chips is employed time and again to impart an important message, truly resonated with me.
The video is 11 minutes long and, especially if you’ve got kids of your own, I highly recommend watching it. As a poker player, it will mean that much more to you.
