Phil Ivey? Men “The Master” Nguyen? Michael “The Grinder” Mizrahi?
If you had bet that one of the “household name” poker pros would be the first player to win 2 bracelets this year, then you’d have lost some money.
Both Annette Obrestad and Phil Hellmuth made deep runs, but ultimately fell short of winning bracelets at this year’s World Series of Poker.
When you’re good, your good. As though determined to solidify (even more) his place and reputation as the best poker player alive, Phil Ivey claimed yet another World Series of Poker bracelet this week, giving him a career total of 8. This ties him with Eric Seidel for 4th on the all-time bracelet-winner list, behind poker luminaries Johnny Moss (9), Johnny Chan (10), Doyle Brunson (10), and the leader Phil Hellmuth (11).
It’s time for another recap of what’s been happening over the last week at the World Series of Poker. Here’s a rundown of the newsmakers and headline grabbers:
Haven’t blogged in a bit, so time to update y’all on what’s been happening over the last week at the World Series of Poker. Here’s a rundown of the newsmakers and headline grabbers:
Men “The Master” Nguyen joined Phil Ivey and Billy Baxter with 7 career WSOP bracelet wins (6th-most all time) when he took down the $10,000 buy-in 7-Card Stud World Championship.
Phil Laak has been playing poker for an unthinkable 80+ straight hours over the last few days, achieving a personal goal of having his name enshrined in the Guinness Book of World Records
At a star-studded final table, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi emerged victorious to win his first ever World Series of Poker bracelet and over $1.5 million.
The Harrah’s and Rio’s casino staffs aim to improve the WSOP experience from year to year. This year, they’ve enlarged and set aside special sports bar areas from which soccer’s World Cup can be watched.
Yesterday’s blog listed 5 of the top 10 players I feel are worth watching at this year’s World Series of Poker. If you haven’t read it yet, check it out here . Without further ado, here are the other 5 “must watch” players at this year’s WSOP, along with WHY you should be watching them:
I’ve picked a few select pros to watch and listed them below along with the REASONS they should be watched at this year’s World Series of Poker. Here are the first 5; the next 5 will come tomorrow.
With a sky-high buy-in, and few opportunities to satellite in for a seat (unlike the $10K WSOP Main Event), only the best of the best pros can afford to play in the Poker Player’s Championship
Do you like to play poker live but are frustrated with the slow speed of the game after getting used to multitabling online? If the answer is yes, then you MUST try the Poker Pro automated poker tables.
In the immortal words of Sammy Farha – Raisy Daisy! We begin the last episode of this season’s High Stakes Poker by raising the stakes to $500-$1,000 blinds with a 300 ante.
To wear or not to wear sunglasses at the poker table? That’s the issue we discuss in this thought-provoking post. We’ll also see what two leading poker bloggers, Daniel Negreanu and Roy Winston, have to say about the matter.
I’d like to start off by saying that I absolutely LOVE Gabe Kaplan’s intro to the episode. I think it’s very smart of the producers to acknowledge the tape-delayed nature of the broadcasts by letting Kaplan give up-to-date news of Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan’s vegetarian prop bet.
In this episode of High Stakes Poker, Daniel Negreanu once again fails… Not much new under the sun, eh?
Remember David Williams? Probably best known for his 2nd place finish in the World Series of Poker to Greg Raymer in 2004, for the last few years David…
So why is this headline interesting you ask? I find it amazing that Daniel Negreanu bought in for $341,000 after all the ups and downs he had the…
I love how the episode starts out with Gabe Kaplan’s commentary about Shabbat dinner at Eli Elezra’s house. As a proud member of “the tribe” myself, it’s always funny to hear other Jews make fun of themselves. Sure, I’d play poker with my friends too instead of having a Shabbat dinner with my kids, LOL, why not?!
Disclaimer: This episode was far more notable for being “laugh out loud” hilarious, rather than for its poker play. We’ll try to get some poker commentary in here, but it’s impossible to write about what happened without focusing on some of the episode’s funnier moments. Also want to shout out to Gabe Kaplan – Mr. Kotter, you’re freaking hilarious!!! I hope you stay on this show forever!
As mentioned in a recent blog post, the world has been waiting for Isildur1’s live poker debut with nothing less than bated breath. To the many eager eyes,…
I was happy to hear at the show’s outset that the group of players will be changing again; it’s time for some new blood.
Away from the table action, once again I liked the Negreanu Did You Know? segment about implied odds (excellent addition to the show this season!). What was even more entertaining, however, HILARIOUS as a matter of fact, was Gabe Kaplan’s post-segment commentary about “putting your opponent on implied tilt and he might give you an implied middle finger” LOL…
They say that nowadays poker is a solved game… Well one mystery the poker community is still trying to solve is “Who is Isildur?” The poker phenom known…
New poker session, some new faces, and 3 of the same faces I’m happy to see again: Ivey, Dwan and Negreanu. I find it interesting that Antonius, Dwan, and Ivey each bought in with $500k, as opposed to the $200k everyone else bought in for (Negreanu bought in for the $346k that he had remaining from previous session). I wonder if Dwan, Ivey, and Antonius feel more comfortable with bigger stacks, or if others feel less comfortable with smaller stacks against them.
Each time the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions has been held, it’s been an amazing event.Originated by Mike Sexton, the WSOP TOC always sees poker’s greatest…
Also about Negreanu, I’ve grown to like and appreciate his “Did You Know?” segment in season 6. As opposed to vignettes like “The Nuts” that we’ve seen in past seasons of High Stakes Poker just for entertainment purposes, the Did You Know segments presents some nice explanations of more advanced poker concepts.
Away from the action at the table, I wanna say that I loved Kara Scott’s 30-second segment on the best question ask a player to get information. More specifically, I liked Gus Hansen’s reply: “Did you get laid last night?” I think I might ask that next time I sit down at the felt, and see what kind of information I’ll get J
I might be a little a head of Robbie and i don’t want to spoil the fun, but I just saw the latest High Stakes Poker, and i…
