Crunching the Numbers Behind the PokerStars Sunday Million
So yesterday I played in one of the Sunday majors for the first time (Sunday 1/4 Million at PokerStars). It took me about 4 hours until I busted (I made the money) and then I started wondering how much longer it would’ve taken to finish the tournament, if somehow I got lucky enough to make the final table. That inspired me to do some research about PokerStars’ biggest tournament, the Sunday Million. Here’s what I came up with.
Isildur1 Signs with PokerStars, Real Name is Actually Viktor Blom
The high stakes online poker pro known to the world simply as Isildur1 has finally “gone public”, revealing himself to be none other than Viktor Blom. PokerStars scored a coup, signing Isildur1 to become one of their site pros and promising that his identity would soon be revealed. Keeping to their word, PokerStars reportedly has big plans for Viktor Blom this year.
Daniel Negreanu Wins $1 Million at 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure
Readers of Daniel Negreanu’s poker blog know that he always sets himself goals for the year. His first goal for 2011 was to win $1 million. Incredibly, just a couple weeks into the New Year, Negreanu can already cross that off his list! While he didn’t win the $100,000 Super High Roller event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, second place was good enough to win Negreanu $1 million and catapult him into the all-time lead for money won in poker tournaments (around $14 million), ahead of FullTilt pro Phil Ivey.
UB Passes Torch to New Spokesman Prahlad Friedman
You gotta admit, the people at UB have been pretty busy lately. With Phil Hellmuth and Annie Duke recently departing from the UB stable, the online poker room has made a move towards showcasing a younger group of online poker pros, most notably new company front man Joe Sebok. This week, however, UB shocked the poker world when it signed WSOP bracelet winner Prahlad Friedman to an endorsement deal.
Top Poker Pros Phil Hellmuth and Annie Duke Leave UB
Two of the biggest names in poker, Phil Hellmuth and Annie Duke, have announced that they have severed business ties with UB. Notoriously in the news over the last few years for corruption scandals (which led to the rebranding of UltimateBet as UB in the first place), UB no longer has any of its inaugural pros left in its stable of poker players.
Peter Eastgate to Sell His WSOP Bracelet on Ebay; Tony G Wants to Buy It
As the CardPlayerLifeStyle poker blog reported back in July, 2008 WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate no longer wants to be a part of the poker world. Having made his fortune (over $9 million) in poker, Eastgate cited lost interest in the game and wishes to move on to other pursuits.
PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker Stop Operations in Washington State
As the chorus of the much-beloved Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler” goes, “you gotta know when to hold ’em, and know when to fold ’em”. Fearing legal action in light of a new state supreme court ruling, Full Tilt Poker walked away, while PokerStars chose to run – out of the state of Washington.
Vanessa Selbst Wins 2010 Partouche Poker Tour Main Event
Proving that her recent North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Mohegan Sun $750,000 win wasn’t a fluke, Vanessa Selbst scored big again at the €8,500 buy-in main event of the Partouche Poker Tour. This prestigious win in a field of 764 players is Selbst’s biggest success to date, carrying a €1.3 million payday.
